The role of specific energy in micro-grinding of titanium alloy

This paper is concerned with understanding the role of specific energy in micro-grinding conventional and additively manufactured Ti6Al4V. The effects grinding dressing parameters, cooling-lubrication conditions, directions material build-up are studied. It demonstrated that minimum single grain tests independent material-fabrication method. lowest measured obtained 11.5 J/mm3 for both workpiece materials. direction influenced process only when low aggressiveness, where 20% higher was observed. Similar energies were oil-lubricated dry indicating lubrication had minimal effect. diamond concentration wheel parameters also investigated. Comparable observed wheels C150 C200 concentrations. found being predominantly by dressing. Coarse conditions produced 18% lower and, therefore, a more efficient process.
